It is true that the deteriorating health of citizens as a result of poor diets is a growing concern for many authorities around the world. Some believe that it is up to each person to improve their health, whereas others believe that governments should take responsibility for this. This essay will analyze both perspectives and then offer a personal viewpoint.
There is no doubt that individuals must be accountable for their diet and health. This is supported by the argument that adults have free will and make their own decisions about their dietary and physical activities. If one is unwilling to adopt a healthy way of living, nobody will be able to change his lifestyle for the better. In addition, these days, children are more likely to opt for high-fat fast food in light of its convenience and predominance, thereby worsening their health. Since their parents provide them with pocket money, it is their responsibility to ensure that their meals are nutritious and to discourage their consumption of junk food and sugary snacks throughout the day. Unquestionably, it is up to each individual to make healthy lifestyle choices to ensure their well-being and longevity.
Nevertheless, others argue that states should intervene when it comes to maintaining public health. To explain this, due to the fast pace of life and the enormous amount of work pressure, the majority of global citizens today are frequently compelled to choose ready-to-eat meals. The national leaders could regulate the ingredients of such food. By doing this, there may be fewer people contracting health problems such as diabetes, obesity and even cancers, which can greatly contribute to a plunge in financial burden and healthcare-related expenditure. Admittedly, it would be prudent for the authorities to make a concerted effort to take such preventative measures.
In conclusion, I argue that while individuals are ultimately accountable for what they eat, it is also the duty of the governments as they have the authority to monitor and control food supply. In my opinion, the improvement of individuals’ health could be achieved by this combined effort.
