In contemporary society, there has been a noticeable shift in the degree of autonomy granted to the younger generation, a stark contrast to the stringent oversight they once experienced. I am firmly convinced that this evolution is a commendable stride forward, offering invaluable opportunities for holistic growth in both personal and interpersonal domains.
A paramount advantage of bestowing greater independence upon youngsters lies in the myriad opportunities it presents for self-discovery and skill acquisition. When adolescents are at liberty to select their recreational pursuits and academic disciplines, they delve deeper into their passions, fostering a profound sense of self-awareness. For instance, in Ho Chi Minh City, a recent initiatives allowed high school students to design their extracurricular activities. This led to a surge in innovative clubs, from robotics to environmental conservation, reflecting the diverse interests of the students. Such endeavors not only bolster self-assurance but also cultivate resilience, as they grapple with challenges and learn from their missteps, preparing them for the intricacies of adult life.
Furthermore, this newfound freedom plays pivotal role in molding their character. By navigating daily tasks and social interactions autonomously, they hone essential life skills and virtues. In the past, many Vietnamese youngsters, especially from affluent backgrounds, were cocooned in privilege, leading to a sense of entitlement. However, with increased freedom, they now engage in community service, interact with diverse groups, and develop empathy, humility, and a sense of responsibility.
In summation, the enhanced freedom that today’s youth enjoy is undeniably a boon, fostering both skill and character development. It is imperative, however, for guardians to strike a balance, offering guidance while allowing their wards the space to grow and flourish.
