Some suggest that, to cultivate a child’s talents and imagination, they should spend less time reading and more time engaging in stimulating activities. Even though reading is somewhat beneficial to the imagination, I believe it is preferable to participate in a more physical activity.

Those who advocate for reading assert that it fosters creativity. Parents have read stories to their children for years, not only to impart moral lessons but also to inspire them. JK Rowling, one of the well-known children’s authors, is renowned for her innovative illustrations, creative rhymes, and socially conscious plots. Children who read her books are inclined to model their writing and artwork after her. As children mature, they can find new imaginative authors and utilize reading to imagine a variety of worlds and people. Admittedly, students will have inherently more examples upon which to depend creatively in their studies and future jobs.

Nonetheless, enjoyable activities require greater degrees of participation. This is often true for a variety of interests, ranging from athletics and art to socializing and vacationing. For example, if a parent wishes to teach painting, their children will need to learn how to work with various types of paints and papers, select subjects to depict, and apply the appropriate techniques to accomplish any desired effect. As their first paintings are unlikely to be successful, they will also need to learn perseverance and commitment. Given that they engage in this activity in a group, they can simultaneously learn social skills. Unquestionably, depending on the activity, a youngster will be asked to extend their comfort zone well beyond what is necessary when passively reading a book by themselves.

In conclusion, despite the legitimate benefits of reading for creativity, I would say that a more active activity has more tangible and lasting effects. Parents should strike a balance, but give priority to active participation over inactivity.
